V2SC Women's Health Initiative Kickoff! |
Have you heard the news? We are launching our Women's and Maternal Health Initiative! This program is designed to bring HPV cancer prevention education into OB/GYN, family practice and maternal healthcare settings across Alabama, especially in our rural and medically underserved communities. At its core are accessible patient-facing resources teaching young, pregnant and postpartum women that HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening will protect them and their children (the next generation!) from HPV cancers. It's a natural expansion of the VAX 2 STOP CANCER vision of eliminating HPV-associated cancers in our state.

Right NOW, to support this initiative, we are undertaking a $100,000 fundraising campaign. Your gift to this campaign is an investment in a future where Alabama's women neither suffer nor die from cervical cancer. |

ADPH Office of Women's Health |
In the Alabama Department of Public Health's Bureau of Family Services there is a vital and thriving Office of Women's Health (OWH), whose mission is to promote the health of women throughout the state of Alabama. Created by Alabama Legislative Act #2002-141, the OWH's VISION is to promote women’s health in Alabama by creating a culture of wellness through advocacy, policy and education. They achieve this by: -
Facilitating and coordinating information and education about women’s health
- Creating partnerships and strategic alliances with key stakeholders
- Advocating for equitable public policy on issues that affect women’s health

The OWH brings health education and outreach programs to women and their families in Alabama communities; prepares materials on women’s health for publication and dissemination; supports the Well Woman Alabama program; hosts an annual conference; and serves as a repository of data and information affecting women’s health. |

VAX 2 STOP CANCER Program Manager, Anne Lynn Langloh, had the opportunity to present at the OWH's Steering Committee meeting earlier this month. She shared with this receptive and diverse group of medical and health-related professionals, the story of our organization, an overview of the Provider Education Program, and details and goals of our Women's Health Initiative. There is no doubt that the OWH's work and experience in the preventative health field will be a valuable resource for us as we roll out this program.

Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month |
| |
Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month (GCAM) is observed every September to bring attention to all five gynecologic cancers: cervical*, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal*, and vulvar*. It’s a time to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, educate communities, and drive action toward better prevention, earlier detection, and improved outcomes for all.
Led by the Foundation for Women’s Cancer and supported by survivors, caregivers, clinicians, advocates, and loved ones, GCAM unites us in the fight to end women’s cancers. VAX 2 STOP CANCER is in this fight! We are committed to getting cancer prevention education into healthcare practices and communities throughout Alabama. *HPV causes more than 90% of cervical cancers and 70% of vaginal and vulvar cancers. |

Impact Update A Snapshot of 6 Years of V2SC's Pediatric Provider Education Program |

% = average percent increase seen for up-to-date HPV vaccination rates of 9–13-year-olds in a one-year period after Provider Education Training. |

The chart shows the number and types of medical practices and healthcare centers we have trained and worked with since 2020.
Medical doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, MA's and front office staff participate in the program and serve as Vaccine Champions for their practice. In addition to significant HPV vaccination rate improvement in their 9–13-year-old patient population, providers and staff gain increased confidence in recommending the HPV vaccine and in addressing parent vaccine concerns and questions. |
